We are pleased and actually quite proud to announce that Rhossili Community Council has won the award for Best Use of Digital Resources at the One Voice Wales National Awards Ceremony 2025 (think Oscars but for Town and Community Councils!). The event was held at the Royal Welsh Showground at Builth Wells on April 30th 2025.
One Voice Wales is the national representational body for Community and Town Councils in Wales. Chief Executive Lyn Cadwallader announced that they had received a record number of nominations this year and they had been delighted at the standard. There were 37 Town & Community Councils represented at the Awards day and Rhossili Community Council was the smallest of these, by some margin.
Those shortlisted for awards across 12 categories were asked to give short presentations during the day. Councillor Maggie Kirk delivered the talk for RCC. She outlined how we use digital resources in our day-to-day business and then focused on the creation of our community website (‘the Hwb’) and redesign of the RCC website, along with the IT support sessions we delivered as part of the Hwb programme.
As well as winning the ‘Digital Resources’ award we were also commended for our submissions to the Best Community Engagement category (the D-Day 80 commemorative day) and Best Environmental Project (the Birdbox workshop).
Accepting the award, Maggie paid tribute to the contribution of the Hwb team to the project, including Isobel & Colin Everett, Steve Walmsley, Paul Kirk, Vicki James and Gill Boulding. The wider support from Community Council members, Rhossili Village Hall and all those members of the community who contributed to the development of the website, including those who have contributed content, and to the IT training, was also acknowledged.
Chair Ian Button said, “This award and the commendations really show how even the smallest of councils can work together as a team and with others to bring benefits to the community. Everything we do is on a voluntary basis and we do it because we want to make a positive difference to the community we care about.”
