The Council Meeting
Council meetings are formal events with a clear purpose – to make decisions following appropriate, focused debate. They are also public events; the press and public have a right to observe how their council operates. Exceptions are when sensitive issues are discussed (such as legal, contractual or personnel matters) and then the council can agree to exclude the press and public for just those items.
Since May 2022, a community council has to make and publish arrangements for convening meetings, which allows – but not requires – participants to be in multiple locations (e.g. using Zoom). The minimum requirement is that members are able to hear and be heard by others.
Offering an opportunity for public participation is also now required; the public must be given a reasonable chance to make representations about business to be discussed. The total time allowed for this is 10 minutes (unless the Chair decides otherwise) and an individual should not speak for more than 3 minutes (again, unless the Chair says so).
We now offer a brief opportunity to speak at the start of the meeting, before the business gets underway, and then at the end of the meeting.
Council Meeting Dates
For the year 2025/2026 Rhossili Community Council will be changing its meeting rhythm to every other month. We believe this will enable the councillors to focus on the projects and priorities of the council, and less time on administration. If a matter arises which requires the council to meet in between set meeting dates these will be announced 3 days in advance via the social media channels, on this website and the village notice boards.
In May, in an election year, we also hold an Annual General Meeting, or otherwise we hold an Annual Council Meeting. The Annual Meeting will take place on Monday 11 May 2026, 7.00pm – Rhossili Village Hall.

Although the meetings are formal, all are welcome and we do offer tea, coffee and biscuits before the start!

Decisions
Within seven days of a council meeting there will be a publish decision list – outlining the decisions the council made at that meeting. This will be replaced by the minutes when they are approved at the next council meeting.
