People’s Emergency Briefing: Public Screening

Rhossili Community Council is hosting a public screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing at 7pm on 19th November at Rhossili Village Hall. This 50 minute film features Chris Packham, leading climate and nature scientists, a former general, Deborah Meaden and Jennifer Saunders – all being pretty frank about where things are heading and what can be done about it. Take a look at the trailer below.

The film features footage from the National Emergency Briefing event at Westminster last November which brought together leading UK experts in climate science, food security, health, economics, national security and nature. It presents a calm, evidence-based overview of how the climate and nature crisis is affecting everyday life in Britain – and what the science says about risks and responses.

The initiative is politically neutral, evidence‑led, and designed to help the public understand the real‑world risks to health, food systems, national security, infrastructure, and the economy and how those risks translate into local impacts. Communities are already experiencing impacts such as heatwaves, flooding, biodiversity loss, and service disruption. Following the film, we will host a structured discussion about what this means for our community.

Over 100 councils have already hosted screenings; the aim is to build public awareness and support for a live, televised government emergency briefing (similar to the Covid briefings if you remember them!). Residents can also request screenings directly.
