No Mow May is almost here!

But now is as good a time as any to down tools (well, mowers) and feel good about it as you leave the dandelions as first food for bees and other insects that need nectar now. The Community Council is encouraging people to do their bit for nature and biodiversity by joining the No Mow May campaign. If you can’t bear the thought of an unmanicured lawn, at least keep some sizeable patches uncut – and obviously unsprayed.

Last year, No Mow May went on in our garden until late June (below, left) and the insects and flowers were a joy to see. We did scythe the borders and eventually had to scythe some paths through the vegetation as the ducks were getting lost (but they loved exploring through the jungle).

Remember, no pollinators, no food. #NoMowMay
